Made record braking flight from Lockheed Air Terminal, Burbank, CA to Washington, DC piloted by Jack Frye and Howard Hughes, and in full TWA colors and with 'The Transcontinental Line,' but with USAF registration (4-)310310 .

NC38936 was allocated to Transcontinental & Western Air in 1944. Still in USAF inventory until May 1947. Sold for spares to A. Schwimmer for c/ns 1965, 1967 and 1968. Rebuilt in 1952 and painted up in Flying Tiger Line colors for lease in January 1952 as N38936.

Destroyed by fire at Burbank, CA on 23 January 1953 after wheels-up landing during a training flight.
